Weekly Rhythm

Weekly Rhythm

While participating in this course, each of the six weekly lessons will review the included prayer, map, and timeline, as well as provide video teachings and weekly reading. These are designed to help build foundations for engaging the Text in its first-century context. Though each week has some unique details, all lessons will follow a similar rhythm as outlined below:

  • SH'MA
    • Each week we encourage you to posture yourself with humility by reciting the Sh'ma prayer as you begin and end each lesson.
  • VIDEO TEACHING
    • Each weekly lesson features at least 1 teaching video, followed by some additional written thoughts and questions.
  • PARASHAH (Weekly Reading Portion)
    • We will engage a new book(s) each week that we encourage you to read (or listen to) in one sitting if possible, as if part of the original audience hearing it for the first time.
  • REVIEW
    • Archaeological Time Periods: Familiarize yourself with the order of historical time periods as these will be referenced throughout your study. We have provided contextual clues to help you.
    • Map of Geographical Regions: By studying the geographical layout of ancient Canaan you will become familiar with the important and distinct regions of the area and how it informed ancient travel, architecture, agriculture, and even theology.
  • SH'MA
    • Just as we begin the lesson in prayer, we will also end it in prayer. This will also be our daily rhythm on the trip.

Throughout this journey our goal is to follow Jesus and to learn more about what that looks like through readings of the Text, studying how He lived, and striving to live the Sh'ma in our own lives every day; loving God and loving others with everything we've got! So strap on your first-century sandals, grab a pen and paper, and may God bless the reading of His Word!
